Detroit, Michigan News Releases

(Detroit.CityRegions.Com, June 24, 2014 ) Novi , Mi -- With the growing popularity of diets that promote "natural eating", the large consumer movements against GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms), and countless major food brands rushing to add "gluten free" to their labels, the desire for all natural, home grown food has skyrocketed in communities across the country. And for the health conscious person of today, simply growing one's own vegetables isn't enough; home gardeners are taking their goods and producing more and more complex products- even their own olive oil.
Although a lot of work is required, the process is actually fairly simple. Obtain olives, then grind, stir, press, and filter them. All that's needed is a heavy duty blender or garbage disposal, mixer, a simple press, some coffee filters, and lastly, an oil dispenser for the finished product. The result is a product people generally feel is safer and healthier than store bought alternatives. "As the niche market for homegrown foods grows, many businesses are losing ground to home entrepreneurs. Consumers want less processed and less mass produced foods. They don't trust pesticides or chemicals they can't pronounce. And they are willing to work or pay for the organic products they trust which are better for their health." said Todd Snively, President of Buy Wholesale Cheap, a web based company that offers a variety of natural and organic products.
Another reason for the market shift is the economy. Families are looking to save money anywhere they can and the grocery budget is ripe with opportunity. The Agriculture Department expects grocery store prices to increase as much as 3.5% in 2014. Add to that last month's 4% increase in the price of beef and it is easy to see why consumers are cutting out the middle men and moving to grow and produce more of the items they consume on a regular basis.
As health awareness continues to rise and the economy continues to struggle, the home grown trend shows no signs of slowing down. And that trend could spell trouble for big businesses that aren't adapting to the changing market, unless they are in the oil dispenser business.
