Detroit, Michigan News Releases
|
(Detroit.CityRegions.Com, January 29, 2015 ) Detroit, Michigan – Detroit radio has been stagnant for decades. The last recent sweep of change came with the Stone Temple Pilots and Counting Crows. Sad, but that’s how the locals prefer it. To get to what is really happening in Alternative Rock the writers from Hot Metro Finds travelled to Riot Fest in Chicago to be part of an epic three day live music event. The Epitaph label had new sounds to offer in the form of Title Fight. This quirky, loud, and bombastic group out of Kingston, Pennsylvania was one of the first acts that played on day one in Humboldt Park in Chicago.
Ted Cantu of Hot Metro Finds was joined by innovative Chicago based art group Borderbend and Dan Godston. Title Fight was featured on a sampler disc at the three day festival that featured top names in Alt Rock including The Cure, Weezer, Janes Addiction and Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears. Many of the bands featured in the Chicago leg of Riot Fest have yet to surface in Metro Detroit let alone on the airwaves. Title Fight played two other cities in the tour including Denver and Toronto.
The Epitaph sampler disc also featured The Sidekicks, Plague Vendor, Pianos Become The Teeth and others. The Descendants, (also featured on Epitaph) showed up on day two of the festival to play a two hour set. Much of the art and musical event media coverage surrounding the festival was handed over to the fans. This event bypassed a lot of traditional journalism and was given to the fans in the means of homemade video production, extensive blog coverage, and even interviewing the acts between the tightly timed sets.
Similar media duties were handled in much the same way during the recent Queen + Adam Lambert tour in North America and Australia. There was still some traditional media presence with the Chicago Tribune, Redeye, The Chicago Reader and the university papers. However a wide array of fan based media was created in conjunction of the traditional mainstream only to find its way to immediately available outlets such as Google blogs and Youtube.com Hot Metro Finds is featuring the different t-shirts from Title Fight as well as fan generated merch. The lines are becoming blurred in traditional media while the fan media carries more heart.
