(Detroit.CityRegions.Com, February 27, 2015 ) DETROIT, MI, FEBRUARY 18, 2015— Thousands will march in the spirit of unity on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the March for Justice 2015 in downtown Detroit. The timing of the peaceful march falls aptly in line with the 50 year commemoration of Dr. King's march on Selma and will be an unforgettable collaboration of multi-ethnic, ecumenical Michigan churches, as well as other faith based organizations, taking a stance against educational and economic disparity and the recent injustices against African American males and females across this country. The church community will stand in agreement that the lives of Michael Brown, Eric Garner, as well as others nationwide….do matter. Marchers of all ages, races and religious denomination will participate. For additional information visit www.marchforjustice2015.com. The purpose of March for Justice 2015 is to establish an ecumenical demonstration of church unity that results in the promotion of educational and economic parity; the elimination of racially motivated injustice and the strengthening of the existing relationship between the community and law enforcement. “It is time for the church to show up and speak up” said Dr. Larry Smith, Pastor of New St. Mark Baptist Church and event organizer. “We believe demonstration brings participation. This march is to demonstrate, motivate, and activate the citizens of Detroit and let them know that the church is alive and well and that as a body of faith we can make a difference” said Smith. The vision of the March is to birth a post-March movement that will lead to meaningful discussion with impactful policy changes that promote justice, equality and peace for all citizens of the city of Detroit and abroad. Thus, the first thing the Church collaborative intends to do is to come together on issues they believe to crucial to their communities— including encouraging voter registration and participation in 2016, as well as job creation and education reform. Several pastors and church leaders have met to begin the planning and organization of March for Justice 2015. The Detroit Chapter of the NAACP will serve in an advisory capacity, while over 50 pastors and their congregations have committed their participation and recruitment of additional participants, as well as providing monetary support. Represented faiths, thus far, include Baptist, AME, CME, Catholic, Presbyterian, Lutheran, COGIC, Apostolic and nondenominational. Pastors E.L. Branch, Wilma Johnson, Kevin Turman, Patricia Havis and Steven Bland, are just a few notable, well-respected pastors that are vested in this effort. Community Organizations include The Harriet Tubman Center, Michigan Black Chamber of Commerce, Detroit Clergy Gathering, and others. Additional community leaders, elected officials, civic groups, businesses and volunteers will aid in the March’s mission.
