(Detroit.CityRegions.Com, May 11, 2015 ) Taylor, MI -- May 15th celebrates National Chocolate Chip Day. Chocolate chips began as a baking accident. In 1937 Ruth Wakefield, the owner and chef of the Toll House Inn, ran out of baker's chocolate as she was making cookies. She improvised by substituting small chunks of a Nestle's semi-sweet chocolate bar for the baker's chocolate. To her surprise the chocolate bar pieces retained their shape and didn't melt and the chocolate chip cookie was born.
By 1939 the cookie's popularity was growing so Nestle developed chocolate morsels for baking which eventually became known as chocolate chips. Today chocolate chips cookies are made with a wide variety of ingredients – nuts, oatmeal, coconut, raisins, dried cherries and different types of chocolate. But the recipe for Chocolate Chip Cookie Cups from Slick Cups is similar to the original Toll House recipe.
Slick Cups are non-toxic, heat resistant and bake directly on a cookie sheet. Reusable muffin cups clean easily under running water and on the top rack of a dishwasher. They are BPA free, FDA approved and oven, microwave and freezer safe. Many brands, like Slick Cups, have a no questions asked guaranteed return policy.
