(Detroit.CityRegions.Com, June 10, 2014 ) Novi , Mi -- As the weather warms up, many people choose to embark on day trips and camping trips. The roads fill up as folks head out to enjoy the outdoors more; however, as vehicles are being used more often, the chances of road trouble also increases. Simple precautions can be taken to decrease the chances of roadside trouble.
It's important to get your vehicle tuned up before summer vacations and trips. Taking your vehicle to the mechanic and getting any issues repaired before your trips can ensure you don't get caught in a sticky situation. Even if you think there are no issues with your vehicle there are things a mechanic may be able to find that need to be fixed before you hit the road.
It's also a good idea to stow a "emergency kit" in case you do have car issues. Traveling with a first aid kit is always a good idea. Keeping a canteen of water if a must if you are traveling into the country or desert.
Keeping jumper cables and an LED flashlight in case you have trouble with your engine cannot be forgotten. You may want to also keep a good old fashioned paper map in case your cell phone or GPS reception goes bad. If you are traveling into areas with swamp land or water you may want to put seat belt cutters in your car. Remember also to check the weather before heading out for an outdoor adventure, as thunderstorms are common in the summer and can make the roads more slippery and dangerous for driving.
Summer adventures can be some of the best; however, it's important to remember road safety while you are traveling. Taking a few safety measures beforehand can go a long way while you are on your trip. Vacations are much more fun when you don't have to waste time on the side of the road flagging down passing cars with a flashlight!
