Detroit, Michigan News Releases

(Detroit.CityRegions.Com, October 27, 2015 ) Taylor, MI -- October is National Animal Safety and Prevention Month; a month dedicated to promoting safe practices of handling and caring for both domestic and wild animals. Animals play an important part in the lives of many people, even those that don't personally have pets. And the objective of this national holiday is to make sure that all animals are treated kindly and with respect.
There are several ways to participate in National Animal Safety and Prevention Month. Some are as simple as being aware of the needs of household pets. For example, pets should be micro-chipped so if they're lost, they can be easily found and returned. Collars with identification tags are also important. Homes should be pet-proofed against the possibility of pets coming in contact with dangerous poisons or toxins. And a disaster plan should be in place in case it's necessary to quickly evacuate pets from their home.
Halloween presents unique safety concerns. The National Retail Federation estimates that Americans will spend 350 Million Dollars on pet costumes this year. If pets are out trick-or-treating with the family, a reflective pet harness will keep them easily visible and safe once it's dark.
People without pets of their own can participate in Animal Safety and Prevention Month by volunteering at the local animal shelter or fostering a pet until it finds its new home.
For those animal lovers without a lot of free time, donating money or much needed supplies to local animal shelters would help to ensure that animals waiting to be re-homed will get the necessary care.
To celebrate National Animal Safety and Prevention Month, a reflective pet harness, made of nylon and covered with reflective strips is available from Grama's Kitchen at Amazon at a 23% discount for a limited time and while supplies last. The harness comes in 3 sizes small, medium and large.
